place value partitioning

W.a.l.t use place value partitioning to self addition and subtraction problems.

for the last week me and my maths group are focused on a new maths strategy called place value partitioning how we use this strategy you have to split each number into their hundreds tens ones and then add them together separately.

i enjoy using this strategy because it helps me solve place value questions a lot quicker and under stand it a lot easier. here is a image to show show you an example applying new maths activity.

have you used place value partitioning before?

102 - 11=89 so first we take a way 2 from 100 that equal 100 and then we - 11 from 100 100 -10 =90 90 - 1 =89.
